State Oceanic Administration and Government of Guangdong Sign Cooperation Framework Agreement

On the afternoon of November 24, Hu Chunhua, secretary of the CPC Guangdong Committee, Zhu Xiaodan, governor of Guangdong province, and Wang Hong, director general of the State Oceanic Administration, witnessed the signing of the Framework Agreement on Further Deepening Cooperation to Mutually Promote Guangdong’s Construction of a Province Featuring a strong development of marine industry. Deng Haiguang, vice governor of Guangdong province, and Fang Jianmeng, deputy director general of the State Oceanic Administration, signed the agreement respectively on behalf of the People’s Government of Guangdong and the State Oceanic Administration.
In accordance with the agreement, during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, both sides will give full play to the demonstration and leading role of the advantages of Guangdong in marine economy in the construction of “the Belt and Road” to jointly promote the construction of marine ecological civilization of Guangdong, greatly develop marine economy, promote independent innovation of marine science and technology, manage and make use of marine resources in a scientific way, mutually promote the protection and development of the South China Sea and enhance the cooperation in marine economy along the 21st Maritime Silk Road and in the free trade zone to accelerate Guangdong’s construction of a province featuring a strong development of marine industry.
Entrusted by Hu Chunhua, Zhu Xiaodan expressed appreciation to the State Oceanic Administration for its long-term concern and support for the development of Guangdong’s marine industry on behalf of the CPC Guangdong Committee and the People’s Government of Guangdong. He said that the development of marine economy and construction of a province featuring a strong development of marine industry have great significance in promoting Guangdong’s economic restructuring, cultivating new economic growth points and accelerating the fulfillment of the goals under “three orientations and two leading roles”. Guangdong will take this agreement as a new chance to, under the support of the State Oceanic Administration, fulfill the tasks under the agreement, further enhance cooperation with other provinces in terms of construction of marine ecological civilization, sustainable development of marine economy and independent innovation of marine science and technology, and give full play to its demonstration and leading role in the aspects of innovative development of marine economy, promotion of a prosperous development of marine economy relying science and technology, protection and management of marine resources as well as protection and development of the South China Sea. It aims to take a lead to realize the goal to develop the province into one featuring a strong development of marine industry and make due contributions to China’s construction of a country featuring a strong development of marine industry and realization of the “Chinese Dream” to bring about a great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Wang Hong said that Guangdong is a province with abundant marine resources, which lay a solid foundation for the development of marine industry. It has played a leading role in many aspects nationwide. The State Oceanic Administration will comprehensively deepen the cooperation with Guangdong in this field to support Guangdong to accelerate the construction of a province featuring a strong development of marine industry and make joint efforts with Guangdong to make great contributions to China’s construction of a country featuring a strong development of marine industry and further construction of the 21st Maritime Silk Road.
